Petrel™is a leading environment for geo-modelers and reservoir engineers to build dynamic models and derive insights from simulation data. Often, these professionals exchange Petrel projects instead of simulator-ready decks. The ECHELON Plug-in solves this by enabling Petrel projects to generate, export or directly submit ECHELON cases. This empowers users to maintain their existing workflows while benefiting from ECHELON's extreme simulation performance.
The plug‑in offers three ways of executing ECHELON:
Users on Windows workstations equipped with GPUs can launch ECHELON directly from Petrel. By adding the ECHELON executable to the system path, the plug‑in manages export, simulation, and result retrieval, loading outputs back into Petrel as they would normally expect.
Organizations with access to HPC clusters can submit jobs remotely. After configuring SSH access and queue settings through Petrel's UI, the plug-in handles submission, monitoring, and cancellation. File transfers (via scp or sftp) and support for schedulers like LSF, PBSPro, Slurm and UGE are all built in. Custom scripts can also be generated for specialized environments.
For those without local HPC resources, the plug-in enables simulation on the SRT Cloud (leveraging AWS or RunPod). Users can create and manage cloud accounts directly via Petrel, submit jobs, and retrieve results, all through the familiar interface and even buy cloud compute hours as needed.
